Background

As the first and only human rights studies center in Southeast Asia, OHRSD has been committed to inspire, encourage and educated future human rights advocates, defenders and implementers to be the best and most effective in their respective fields. Throughout its 13 years of existence, it has produced a number of successful human rights champions in government, academia, media and civil society. In the spirit of re-discovering its alumni roster, in April 2010, it started a project called CHAMPASS or Celebrating and Harnessing Achievements of MA and PHD Students and Staff.

Objectives

As it opens its doors to its newest, biggest and most diverse batch yet, it also seeks to re-establish beautiful links with its 165 former students alumni. By doing so, it hopes to develop and nurture a network among its alumni; not only to hear and gather stories of success from alumni but also keep them updated about the Center current achievements and endeavors.

Activities

Some alumni have expressed their interest to enthusiastically participate in any activity involving current and former students.

  1. Human Rights Voice
A monthly newsletter aims to contain reports, articles and updates furnished by OHRSD staff and students. It seeks to serve as a tool for members of the OHRSD family to voice out their thoughts and feelings on relevant issues in human rights. OHRSD hopes that each student, alumnus/alumna and staff would be able to contribute at least one article to the newsletter.
  2. .Friends for the Rights of Everyone, Everywhere (Free)
The Friends for the Rights of Everyone, Everywhere (Free) was formed by students of the Mahidol University Center for Human Rights Studies and Social Development. Free was born out of a desire to initiate efforts to assist academic institutions, NGO, government agencies and individuals in realizing effective application of humsn rights standards for everyone, everywhere. It also seeks to form linkages with other student and youth organizations from both the Mahidol University and other universities in Thailand and in the Southeast Asian Region.
