Admission Procedures

Applications for two international programmes, the Master of Arts in Human Rights (International Programme), the PhD in Human Rights and Peace Studies (International Programme), are carefully considered by the admissions committee, and decisions are made based on all aspects of the application requirements: academic standards, the strength of letters of reference, quality of the writing sample, and the statement of motivation. Consideration of the research interests of the applicant will be taken into account in order to ensure that students will receive sufficient support and guidance by faculty.

 

Application files are reviewed twice yearly by the admissions committee. The closing date for the first round of applications is October 31, 2010 and the second round is January 31, 2011 for the academic year beginning in June, 2011. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to apply for the first round deadline of October 31 in order to allow time to arrange financial support for study. Complete application files, with all required documents, must be received before these dates to be considered for admittance to the programmes.

Application Requirements for the Master of Arts in Human Rights (International Programme)

In order to be eligible for the Master of Arts in Human Rights (International Programme), applicants must:

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field, with a minimum GPA of 2.50 (or the equivalent)
  2. Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of not less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arrange by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University

Application Requirements for the PhD in Human Rights and Peace Studies (International Programme)

Students are normally admitted to the PhD in Human Rights and Peace Studies (International Programme) after the completion of an MA, or its equivalent, with a demonstrated high level of accomplishment. In exceptional cases, students may be admitted with only a BA, and significant research experience. The programme may arrange interviews with applicants as deemed appropriate.

A. Requirements for candidates with a Master’s degree:

  1. Graduated with a Master’s degree in any major from a recognized university, with a GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent
  2. Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of no less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arranged by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University

B. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree:

  1. Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in any major from a recognized university, with a GPA of no less than 3.25
  2. Have at least five years of experience in a field related to human rights or peace
  3. Have published in an accredited journal at least one article as the sole author, or at least two articles as a co-author
  4. Hold a affiliated position at a research centre or academic institution
  5. Have English language proficiency, with a TOEFL score of no less than 550 or an IELTS of at least 6.0, or pass the English Proficiency Test arranged by the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University
